Greetings dear friends,
Our Hosea team recently held a home-to-home evangelism campaign in Mindoro Island. On one visit they encountered a disabled man suffering from lung cancer, who was just waiting to die. The gospel was preached to him, and a team member brought him to Hosea’s meeting in a wheelchair. The congregation prayed for his healing, and the man’s withered bones began to grow strong: he stood up and now he is walking! I believe that the cancer will also be healed, because Jesus Christ is a powerful healer.
Our Hosea schoolteacher Daisy received a preaching call from God in a dream. She obeyed that call, not knowing that at the same time God was also touching our other teachers…. and this is how our evangelism work amongst slum homes began. As we read in Proverbs 31:20 “She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy”.
Because Daisy was faithful to the Lord's call, her family began to experience blessings. Her youngest son announced that he would start meetings for children, and now he holds such meetings at home every night. He prepares sermons and prays for the children. As Acts 2:17 says"He will pour out His Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions." This quotes the words of the prophet Joel in chapter 2, "...I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh".
The youth group in the Hosea congregation has grown and they already have their own meetings, because we would no longer be able to fit everyone into the same meeting. The young people proclaim the Word, they praise the Lord and pray. The children also have their own meetings, where the little ones even preach. Of course we also have a Sunday school for children from the surrounding area, but our Sunday school teacher has also started children's work by going around the homes in the area. Jesus has called us to go to the highways and byways, and God does not change, He is eternally the same.
The new school year at Hosea began in June, when new students arrived at our schools, where they will learn about the Bible and the Christian way of life. Parents are required to attend Bible classes, as compensation for the fact that the school is free, unlike the rest of the Philippines where preschools charge fees.
We have received good news from our school for the tribespeople: the youth for whom we established a preschool have enrolled in the first grade of the government school on their own initiative! This was made possible through Hosea arranging to get birth certificates and official papers for them. These youngsters also teach the little children of the village what they themselves have learned. In addition, they and other villagers come to San Francisco (a town in the Sablayan municipality of Mindoro) for the meetings of our Hosea church. The work with the tribespeople has certainly not been in vain, but has produced much good fruit.
Nathan was in Norway speaking at a youth festival, where 1100 young people gathered, and he was able to lead over 200 of them to faith, with many having powerful conversion experiences. God is moving among the young people now! The meeting also included young people who were saved in previous meetings, and they testified of their faith to others. This month Nathan will travel to the Philippines again to continue the work.
Thank you for all your support and prayers! Wherever the Spirit of God comes, He brings about change. “And he said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.” Mark 16:15
Blessings, Anne
